Treating Arthritis Pain in Older Pets
Like human being after a particular pets like Older dogs, cats, rabbits, ferrets, birds, and reptiles may also suffers from joint pain that need pet pain relief. Even animals lived long before human being is also suffered by arthritis. Fossil bones of a crocodile called Metriorhynchus lived 150 million year before showed that significant damage in the bones was caused by arthritis. Pet owners must be careful in taking care of there old aged pets because there are the ones that get this arthritis. The one exception may be people with aquariums, since arthritis in fish doesn’t seem to get much attention. If you have pet birds and this pet birds show many sign of arthritis. Your pet bird may not catch their resting place as easily as before and their joints may look distended. Ferrets also get feel arthritis when they become old. They find difficulty in moving and show weakness in their legs. Rabbits are considered to be seniors when they are over 5 years. Senior rabbits may have arthritis if they have difficulty moving, getting into the litter box, or don’t groom themselves as much. Like dogs and cats, they may be given NSAIDs in appropriate doses.
Reptiles Reptiles kept as pets get arthritis as they get older. They may limp or show a reluctance to move. When they are in pain, they may stop eating, show signs of restlessness or act aggressive. Considerably less research has been done on how to relieve the pain of reptiles and amphibians. Vets give them analgesics such as ketamine for pet pain relief.
When pet reptiles, rabbits, cats, dogs, ferrets, or birds show signs of arthritis, owners should be sure to get pet pain relief in the proper dosage for their size.
